The charity:water Waterwalk is a moving, interactive experience where guests take off their shoes and carry two 40-pound yellow jerry cans a fraction of the distance in which millions of women and children in developing countries must walk in order to collect water each day. Until now, the Waterwalk has only taken place in New York City during charity:water’s annual charity:ball Gala ” where celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Sophia Bush, Whoopi Goldberg and Seth Meyers have walked the walk ” and in Times Square on World Water Day of this year. Now, W Hotel guests and local residents of Los Angeles will be able to take part in this incredible experience thanks to the ongoing relationship between W Hotels and charity:water. For each walk, W Hotels will donate $45 to bring one person clean water in Orissa, India.
The official partnership between W Hotels and charity:water was first announced in December 2012 at the 7th annual charity:ball Gala, held in New York City. W Hotels was one of the official sponsors of the night’s Waterwalk, which raised a total of $500,000 to provide 19,400 people in India with access to clean drinking water. The night was hosted by actor, writer and comedian Seth Meyers, and overall raised more than $3.1 million in total and over $800,000 during the Live Auction, which alone will bring clean water to 24,000 people in Kenya.
