Happy Monday! Greg Nagel of OCBeerBlog.com helps us ring in another Monday with need-to-know brew tips.

Q: Green Bottles…are those good or bad? What about clear bottles?

A: Light and beer is like kryptonite to Superman! Green or clear bottles offer little to no light protection. Technically speaking, hop molecules get torn apart and bond with sulfur compounds, causing a distinct skunk aroma. When you hear someone say they don’t like a certain brand of beer because “it’s skunky”, try the canned version or try it on draft to get the true intended (non spoiled) flavor/aroma. Why do breweries still use green or clear bottles is a whole other topic.
