The owners of highly successful The Blind Pig Kitchen + Bar restaurant and The Trough Sandwich Kitchen in Rancho Santa Margarita will bring their Trough concept north, offering high-quality, seasonal sandwiches in a modern and casual atmosphere. Like the company’s two South Orange County locations, the Newport Beach Trough Sandwich Kitchen will be helmed by Executive Chef Karl Pfleider.
€œWe are thrilled to be bringing The Trough concept to Newport Beach, said Grenanimal Restaurant Group partner Tony Monaco. €œFollowing the success of our restaurants in Rancho Santa Margarita, we look forward to offering the high-quality, artisan sandwiches of our Trough concept to the Balboa Peninsula market.
The Trough Sandwich Kitchen in Newport Beach will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with menu highlights including the Chashu Pork Sandwich with marinated boiled egg, arugula, housemade kewpie mayo, and pickled ginger on a corn roll; and the Spaghetti Sandwich with Bolognese, parmesan, and garlic/herb butter on a corn roll. Similar to the original location, Pfleider and his team will make all the sauces and dressings from scratch, in-house. The Trough‘s design will be modern and inviting with reclaimed wood and handcrafted metal touches. Taking advantage of its location just steps from the beach, Balboa Pier, boardwalk and the Fun Zone, the new restaurant will feature both indoor and outdoor seating, year-round.
€œWhen I started on The Blind Pig‘s opening team less than two years ago as a Sous Chef, I never dreamed of leading the charge with the first sandwich shop, let alone a second Trough location, said Chef Karl Pfleider. €œI’m especially excited to bring a compelling food concept to Balboa Village – the heart of Newport Beach – an iconic location that, ironically, has been underserved on the food front for many years.
