For the year ending June 2013, visits to fast food restaurants were up one percent over same period last year compared to flat traffic growth for the total industry, and spending was up 3 percent. Fast casual restaurants (like Chipotle and Panera), which fall under the fast food segment, have been successful and have boosted traffic in the segment. Visits to fast casual restaurants were up 8% in the period.
