Tricks and treats as our canine guests bark at the moon in celebration of Howl-O-Ween on Thursday, October 27 from 4 to 7 p.m.

At this special Yappy Hour celebration, kick back and relax while your pup struts his stuff in his favorite costume on The Dana Lawn. Dogs will enjoy lapping up water in his favorite flavor – Beastly Bacon, Creepy Chicken, Frightful Cheese, Ghoulish Beef and Ghostly Liver – while you enjoy wines from Mutt Lynch Winery. Featured Mutt Lynch Wines by the glass include Unleashed Chardonnay, Merlot Over and Play Dead, and Chateau d’Og Cabernet Sauvignon.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Pet Project Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organization formed in early 2004 with the merger of two animal welfare groups – Friends of San Clemente Animals and Animal Rescue Foundation of Dana Point. Pet Project Foundation’s shelter is pro-humane and no adoptable animal is ever euthanized. Lost and abandoned animals have a second chance at a good life, thanks to the Pet Project Foundation and The San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter.

Canines are complimentary; no host cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for their companions. .

A panel of judges will determine which canine will take home the prize in the costume categories of Scariest, Funniest, Most Glamorous and, of course, Best in Show. First place prize in each category is a hand-painted dog bowl by Debby Carman of Faux Paws Productions. Best in Show will also receive a Posh Pooch experience which includes a two-night stay at the resort, plush doggie bed, chew toy, doggie menu, vista view dog walking trail map, and dog waste bags. Other prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. Cost to enter the costume contest is $10 per canine.

“Yappy Hour has been very well received by local residents and their canine companions. It’s this type of creative event that continues to bring us closer to the community, while also helping generate much needed funding for Pet Project Foundation,” said General Manager Bruce Brainerd. “Howl-O-Ween will be the last Yappy Hour of the season, but canine fans can count on it returning in May 2012,” he added.

Yappy Hour is a Community Footprints fundraising event that supports Pet Project Foundation. Lost and abandoned animals have a second chance at a good life thanks to the Pet Project Foundation and the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter. The mission of the Pet Project Foundation is “to enhance the quality of life of all companion animals in a pro-humane manner through compassion, responsibility, education and service”. Nowhere is this mission better exemplified than through our ongoing support of the shelter. This special shelter provides food, housing, exercise, medical care, and love for homeless animals until they are reunited with their owners or permanent, loving homes are found.

The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel’s Community Footprints program was created to encourage leadership in volunteerism, fundraising, product donations and mentoring programs. No project is considered too large or too small. Dedicated Ritz-Carlton Ladies and Gentlemen provide a wide range of support and services to their community, including fund-raising for local charities, reading to the blind, preparing and serving lunches at homeless shelters, donating books to schools and volunteering at food banks. The Ritz-Carlton Community Footprints stresses that the most important resource is not always money, but time.

The Great Taste team has no reservations about this…count us in!
