Take a photo and become eligible to win an iPad! The Downtown iPhone App Photo Contest was introduced today by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) in an announcement made by President and Chief Executive Officer, Kraig Kojian.The contest invites iPhone users to capture a photo of something or someone in Downtown Long Beach between the dates of June 16 and July 5, 2010. Photos must be taken using an iPhone and must be uploaded using the Downtown Long Beach iPhone App (available free from the Apple iTunes Store at www.itunes.apple.com). The top 10 photos will be displayed at the Sunday, July 11 Battle of the Tribute Bands event from Noon-5PM as part of the Summer And Music (SAM) series, where attendees will be invited to vote for their favorite photo. The winner will receive a 16GB Apple iPad.
“We’re excited to see Downtown Long Beach through the eyes of visitors, residents and members of the business community,” said Kojian. “The Downtown iPhone App is an excellent resource and we look forward to using this technology to help promote the area and the business community in new and creative ways.”
Downtown Long Beach iPhone App
The Downtown Long Beach application, developed by local creative firm, Meta Flavor, is a comprehensive guide to Downtown, listing restaurants, hotels, entertainment amenities, upcoming events and other businesses in a format that allows the user to display information according to their individual filter settings. Listings can be viewed on a map with the ability to look up detailed directions or in a more specific format that includes contact information, website address and more.
Parking and transportation options are also featured, allowing consumers to find information about parking lots and structures nearest their location or destination. Meeting someone in Downtown and they’re not sure where to park? Simply tag the location where you parked and instantly share it with your friend electronically. Interactive route maps allow those on foot to identify the closest Long Beach Transit stops and Passport Shuttle routes to help them navigate the area.
Summer And Music (SAM)
Summer And Music (SAM) is the premiere music festival in Long Beach and was named 2009’s Best Music Festival’ by OCWeekly. Presented in partnership by the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) and DLBA, SAM features 12 events throughout the summer months. A complete schedule is available at www.summerandmusic.com.
Battle of the Tribute Bands will take place on Sunday, July 11 from Noon-5PM at the outdoor performance area known as the Nautical Shell in Pine Avenue Circle between Gladstone’s and PF Chang’s restaurants. The event will feature six live performances by musical groups paying tribute to rock n roll legends from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Contest finalists will be notified via phone or e-mail no later than July 7. Photos will be displayed anonymously and the photo that receives the most votes on July 11 will be deemed the contest winner.
